Arizona Pigeon Deterrent Services
Bird or Pigeon Deterrent Services
Over the years pigeons have become a growing problem throughout Metro Phoenix and many other Arizona cities like Mesa, Tempe, Surprise, Glendale, Tucson and the City of Maricopa just to name to few.
In these growing urban areas pigeons can flock together in large numbers with little to no threat from natural feathered predators like falcons or hawks.
Residential consumers and businesses will spend millions of dollars yearly in their attempts to eradicate these pest birds by trapping them, methods of prevention like netting, shock track or bird spikes and then cleaning up the acidic mess caused by the pest birds or the pigeon droppings and their nesting activities.
In Arizona the growing need for an Arizona Commercial Pigeon Deterrent or Removal Company has been meet. Southwest Avian Solutions the pest bird control specialists have been answering that need since 1997. They have an A+ rating with the BBB, have completed more the 18,000 residential and commercial pest bird and pigeon removals projects in Arizona.
Pest bird control is all we do, no bugs, no termites, no weeds, just long lasting residential and commercial bird deterrents.
Pigeons nesting and their mess in the urban environment on homes or businesses will often block gutters and the rainwater which can cause water to back up and cause extensive water damage or roofing issues.
Pigeon droppings can be highly acidic or destructive, eating into steel, wood, plastic, vinyl, glazed roof tiles, stone and even concrete surfaces. Removing pigeon droppings can sometimes be difficult and or very expensive depending on how long you ignore the problem.
There are a number of different types of pigeon removal or pigeon deterrent products that can be used to stop or build out pigeons from nesting or roosting on your structure they include some of the following;
- Pigeon and Pest Bird Exclusion Netting
- Low Voltage Electric Pigeon Shock Track
- Stainless Steel Pigeon Spike
- Bird Post and Tension Wire
- Bird Spiders
- Bird Reflectors
- Bird Ledge Coil
- Chemical Bird Hazers
- Birdy Birth Control
Pigeon and Pest Bird Exclusion Netting.
Bird exclusion using netting is a great method for keeping airborne pests like pigeons and smaller pest birds out of areas you don’t want them getting into.
Commercial buildings, warehouses, outdoor dining areas, garages, airplane hangars, churches, barns, ballparks, residential structures and other facilities have effectively used bird netting.
Bird exclusion netting comes in a black or tan color and in different sizes from ¾” up to 4” openings depending on the type of best bird being excluded.
Properly installed pest and pigeon netting can be a very effective way to keep birds away from areas that invite roosting, perching, and nesting.
Netting can provide years of long term relief. Over the long-haul netting provides one of the best values overall in cost and visibility this rugged long lasting netting is generally best if installed by a professional installer.
Bird exclusion net is made of a tough UV-stabilized polyethylene mesh, is extremely durable, rot and waterproof, and flame resistant. Professional bird netting products include at least a 5 – 10 year warranty.
We have seen net products last much longer and black net will last much longer than tan net in the brutal 115 degree summers and the Arizona sun.
Electric Pigeon Shock Track
This humane low voltage shock track is designed to “educate” pigeons to stay off the ledges; signage, parapet walls and similar building surfaces where the shock track is installed.
The different humane types of low-profile electric shock track give a harmless electric shock produced by a solar powered or plug-in charger similar to a dog shock fence.
There are a number of different types of shock track; they come in a variety of different colors, even clear.
Lightweight and flexible, the track is best installed by a specialist on all sorts of different surfaces without compromising its electrical integrity.
Stainless Steel Pigeon Spikes.
Bird spike is maybe the number one go to product the world over for pigeon control from ledges, parapet walls, light fixtures, and other flat or curved surfaces.
Bird spikes have become the preferred choice of many property owners and municipalities because there cheap and easy but not always the best choice for long term pigeon control. Bird spikes come in different ledge widths 1”, 3”, 5” and 8” to provide increasingly wider areas of protection by using multiple rows.
These durable spike strips feature a patented “bend-and-crush” design, which means the 4” spikes are firmly embedded in an unbreakable UV-protected polycarbonate base. This flexible base bends a full 360 degrees, so it can easily “follow” a variety of curved mounting surfaces using adhesives or attachment screws.
Watch out using bird spike where there are a lot of smaller pest birds in the area as they will build their nests in the bird spike and then pigeons will, build their nest on top of the small bird nests.
Bird spike is a ledge deterrent product it can be very ineffective if used on wide open flat surfaces where the pigeons can walk up to the spike and drop twigs etc. into the spike.
Bird Post and Tension Wire
A proven urban pigeon deterrent, this post-and-wire system discourages pigeons from landing on ledges, rails, signs, roof top parapets, and many other curved or flat surfaces.
The system uses a thin coated wire attached to springs, which are attached to posts, walls, or other fixed mounts.
When pigeons land on the wire, the wire system causes them to wobble, zig and zag, making them feel very insecure. This quickly prompts birds to move on to another more secure landing zone.
Bird Spider
This spindly, multi-legged device gets rid of or disrupts urban pigeons and prevents them from landing on AC units, lights, signs, and rooftops.
Ruggedly designed for outdoor use, it features marine grade stainless steel “arms” to protect diameters up to 8 feet. A PVC base allows the Spider to be easily placed by screwing into or weighted down for use on boats.
Bird Reflectors
There are several different types of these spinning reflectors, some work and some do not work as pigeon deterrents.
These rotating reflectors have angled surfaces that bounce moving light reflections back at the pest bird scaring them from the area when the reflectors work correctly.
Bird Ledge Coil
This is a product that has been around a long time and many people will not ever see the Bird Coil when looking up a ledge or parapet wall.
Bird coil looks like a big 4 or 5” around slinky stretched out along a parapet wall and attached ever foot to hold it in place.
When the pigeons go to land on the bird coil it collapses under their weigh, scaring the pigeon so it fly’s away to a more stable landing surface.
Chemical Bird Hazers
M.A. is a product that is made of soy oil and grapes and is safe to breath and most likely you have eaten it when chewing grape flavored guns or candies.
It has been proven to repel many pest birds especially pigeons when the fly in an area where MA has been injected into the air, like in a plane hangar etc…
The small amounts of liquid MA is then blown into the air from a timed device that injects the MA throughout the day. When pigeons are flying they breathe harder and the MA is very repellant to them.
Birdy Birth Control
Birth control for pest birds has been around for a number of years and approved by the human sociality as a humane way to control some pest birds.
The OvoControl feed is dispensed from a feeder that goes off at the same time every day so that the pigeons know when to expect the free food.
After 30 days of eating the feed they become temporarily sterile, if the quite eating the feed they will become fertile again.
The process of reducing a large flock of pigeons make take several years so it is not a quick fix by any means.
Other Pigeon Deterrent Methods to consider
Effective pigeon control is more than putting up some bird spikes and netting off and area. Pigeons are always on the lookout for easy sources of food or water.
Consider what still could attract the pigeons to your location, keep trash containers closed especially at restaurants or food service locations, eliminate standing water, deny them access to pool water, standing water or sprinkles and discourage employees or visitors from feeding them or other animals.
